Sedona, Arizona is a hiker’s dream, with more than 200 trails leading to stunning views of the otherworldly red rock formations surrounding this casually upscale, artsy mountain town.
The 1.86 million acre Coconino National Forest around Sedona is home to most of the area’s hiking trails, with elevations ranging from 2,600–12,600 feet.

Cathedral Rock Trail
This moderate trail is short but steep over its 1.2 miles. The breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding red rock formations (especially at sunset) are worth the effort.
Difficulty: Moderate – some scrambling is required near the top
Length: 1.2 miles round trip
Nearby: Stop by Chapel of the Holy Cross, a gorgeous architectural landmark with splendid views.
Location: About three miles south of downtown Sedona.
Devil’s Bridge Trail
You’ll be rewarded with the largest natural sandstone arch in Sedona, plus awesome views on this moderately challenging and popular hike in the Coconino National Forest.
Difficulty: Moderate – easy except for the final ascent to get to the top of Devil’s Bridge.

Location: 12 miles northwest of Sedona in the Dry Creek area.
Bell Trail
This well-marked trail is doable for all fitness levels and has spectacular views of Bell Rock and Courthouse Butte. More challenging hikes and climbs are accessible from this trail.
Difficulty: Easy to moderate.
Length: 2.8 miles round trip.
Required Permits: You must have a Red Rock Pass to access this trail.
Nearby: The Oak Creek Country Club is open to the public to enjoy its Robert Trent Jones 18-hole championship golf course.

This popular trail in the Red Rock-Secret Mountain Wilderness is a fantastic way to see desert beauty in a lush canyon. The trail has several easy stream crossings and opportunities for shade.

Nearby: Wonderful Slide Rock State Park with natural water slides and picnic spots.
Location: 10 miles north of Sedona, along Highway 89A.
Soldier Pass Trail
The Coconino National Forest trail offers great views as well as interesting geological features along the way, like Devil’s Kitchen sinkhole, Seven Sacred Pools, and even a hidden cave.
Difficulty: Moderate.
Length: 4.5 miles round trip.
Nearby: Amitabha Stupa and Peace Park offer a serene, outdoor setting in its 14 acres for meditation surrounded by red rocks plus two Buddhist stupas.
Location: 3 miles west of downtown Sedona.
Sedona Airport Mesa Loop Trail
Known for amazing sunrise and sunset views, this loop trail has panoramic views of Sedona and is especially popular with photographers.
Difficulty: Easy-Moderate
Length: 3.3 miles round trip

Fay Canyon Trail
All ages will enjoy this flat trail which is cool and shaded. Look for the hidden rock arch and ancient cliff dwellings.

Location: 3 miles northwest in the Boynton Canyon area.
Bear Mountain Trail
For the super fit, consider Bear Mountain Trail, which is steep but rewards hikers with 360-degree views of the gorgeous Red Rock-Secret Mountain Wilderness.
Difficulty: Hard.
Length: 4.6 miles round trip.
